So the E-Cat is back in the “science” “news” with “another” “successful” “test”.
The test is pretty audacious, in that scientists measured the fuel before and after and found change in isotopes in a way that is hard to get without nuclear fusion. As far as I can tell that pretty much rules out “unintentional error” and shifts most likely probability to “outright fraud”.
But here’s what bothers me about this.
Rossi’s refused to give his machine a fair open test of the sort that wouldn’t be defraudable, because he claims that then other people could steal his idea.
They can steal his idea because the patent offices won’t give him a patent on it, The patent offices won’t give him patents on it because it’s physically impossible.
So he can justify all of this restricted in-house testing with a semi-believable story that allows him to keep his reputation alive instead of just “Won’t allow open testing, obviously a fraud, let’s move on”.
Why can’t patent offices just give him a damn patent? Like “Yeah, this is impossible, but you’re the only person allowed to do this impossible thing. Knock yourself out.” Then he’d have to put up or shut up.
